Mount Type - Inside or Outside Mount Refers to the way in which the blind will be hung, either inside or outside the window opening. Inside mount blinds are mounted inside the window frame opening that is recessed from the wall. Outside mount blinds hang outside the window opening on a wood trim, wall or door. Inside mount is by far the most popular mount and provides a nice clean look and finish to your window.

For inside mounts: please make sure to follow the Measuring Instructions on our site; do not make any deductions in your measurements, as our factory will make all necessary deductions to allow for mounting brackets.

  • Distance from edge of window to fabric on inside/outside mount and chain lift: 7/8" on chain side, 3/8" on opposite side for a total of 1 1/4".
  • Distance from edge of window to fabric on inside/outside mount and spring lift: ~7/8" on each side for a total of 1 3/4".
  • Shades come standard with a white beaded lift cord unless ordered as a spring mount.
  • Shades over 60" in width must be ordered as a chain mech only.

Not entirely happy with blinds as they are. by
First, we had to delay installation as nowhere did it say that the screws provided are for installing into wood beams only. So off to the hardware store we had to go to get the right anchors. Second, although the vinyl is light blocking the 'small gap' is actually a full inch on either side of the shade if you cannot do 'outside mount' this means that light will bleed through all over. And the top valence allows light through everywhere - from the top, through the roller and reflecting down. So if you're looking for blackout, be aware of this. You will not get it if you buy the cheaper $40 valence (a plastic strip, essentially) but maybe the other valence is better. Because of the color (white) that I bought to comply with condominium requirements, the light that bleeds around the blind reflects off the blind and brightens the entire room. My guess is if you could get a shade darker in color the light wouldn't bleed nearly as much.

Comment from Select Blinds:
We do specify what the gap is, which varies by the type of blind, based on the mechanisms. as it is the largest gap as to be left for roller blinds. We have offered Scott a full credit for another blind, either an outside mount which blocks out much more light (but he has indicated that it won't work for him)or another type of blind (such as a honeycomb) where the gap is much less. We do want Scott to be 100% happy. We are awaiting his decision
