Honeycomb Shades are aptly named. These window covering are made by combining hundreds of honeycomb-like cells to make a beautiful, soft, and energy efficient shade. For this reason, they are also called cellular shades. To find out whether honeycomb shades are the right choice for you, and if so, which configuration to select please read the following information. |

Honeycomb shades provide a very warm and cozy feel to any room. Due to their construction, they will also improve the energy efficiency of your home. Although there are many advantages to honeycomb shades, you should also clearly understand that the particular design of cellular shades means that are no slats to open and close like a horizontal blind, in order to let light in or to see out. That being said, honeycomb shades do offer two ways to control the light throughput and view. The first way is to simply raise the shade from the bottom. All of our cell shades provide this ability, either by pulling on the lift cord, as with most models, or by lifting the bottom rail until the shade is at the desired level, as with our cordless models.
The second way is very cool – it's called Top Down. We offer the feature Top Down/Bottom Up on most of our cellular shades. This feature works by pulling on a cord on the opposite side of the shade than the lift cord, which causes the window shade to actually lower from the top. Once you have seen this feature in action, you will see that the advantages are many. The main advantage is that you can maintain your privacy, while still letting in daylight through the transom effect caused by the sliver of exposed window at the top of the shade.
As you shop around SelectBlindsCanada for your new honeycomb shade, you will become aware of some key differences in the products. First, the size of the cell itself varies from 3/8" to 3/4". It all depends on what look you like best. Another choice is either single cell or double cell construction. Blinds with single cell construction will weigh less, which may be a better choice for large windows. On the other hand, blinds with double cell construction will provide better insulation. In case you're wondering, our best selling product is the 3/8” double cell. Something else to consider is the opaqueness or light level. For a warm and cozy feel, our light filtering cellular shades allow the gentle filtration of light through the shade. For blocking out light, our blackout shades are the most opaque and provide the most light blockage possible. Blackout shades are ideal for media rooms and bedrooms, where total darkness is the desired effect. Another really nice feature to consider is continuous cord loop. With this option, the lift cord always stays the same length, which means there's no extra cord hanging down when the shade is raised. Not only an aesthetic plus, this is also a very good safety feature, especially if there are small children in the household. Please note that not all options and features are available on every shade or blind and not all features can be bundled together.
