Horizontal Blinds

horizontal blinds mounting bracketMounting bracket

The mounting bracket is the same for both inside and outside mounting. You can use the bracket for horizontal blinds to mount the blinds to either the wall or to the ceiling by choosing either the holes on the top of the bracket or on sides of the bracket. Note that one side is hinged so that you can install the blind; the other side is not.

You can use extension brackets when you want to push an outside mount farther from the wall.

These are for the bottom of the blind, to hold the blind in place to avoid it from flopping around (for instance, when the blind is on a door or directly over an air vent).

Hold down brackets come as standard equipment with all of our outside mount blinds. Inside mount blinds rest on the window sill, but outside blind mounts need to rest on something to avoid damaging the headrail or even the slats due to the persistence of gravity.

Inside the headrail, you will find the lift cord mechanism, which is what permits you to lift and lower horizontal blinds.

Large blinds that are wide across need extra support in the middle, otherwise the weight will warp them over time. You can use the center support bracket to give the headrail extra support in the middle. You can mount it to either the ceiling or the wall.

Large mounting bracket

Note how the "outside mount" for the Vertical blinds headrail are L-shaped, with a small flange to attach to the blind headrail. Inside mounts requires only the flange itself. Because vertical blinds weigh so little and because the sliding motion is so smooth and easy, little stress is placed on the mounting hardware. The small flange can be attached directly to the ceiling or the top of the window head.

Honeycomb Shades

Mounting bracket

Honeycomb shades have two mounting options:
(1) outside mounting done through the rear side of the bracket onto the wall, or
(2) inside mounting done through the top side of the bracket.

Once bracket installation has been completed, you simply snap the headrail of the honeycomb shade into the bracket. This is done by tilting the headrail at an angle, and then applying pressure to the back of the headrail so that it fits into the bracket.

Spring roller mounting brackets simply require two screws on each side. Ensure that the screws are installed firmly into the wall, and that the bracket with the easy mount slide in slot is put on the left. Then you can simply slide in the blind and secure it by gently pressing down.

The outside or ceiling mount brackets have two sets of holes, so you can decide whether to use the holes on the side or the top. You will only require two screws per side to install the mount.

Spring roller shade mechanism

On the spring side of the roller shade, you will find the mechanism we use to lower and raise the shade. This piece is housed within the drum around which the shade is wrapped. You will see this piece only if you disassemble your shade. SelectBlindsCanada does not sell individual parts like this, but if you bought your roller shade from us and need a part replaced we will send them to you.

The other side of the roller shade - the side without the spring - holds the spring in place while raising and lowering the shade. This piece is housed within the drum around which the shade rests, will see it only if you disassemble your shade.

You use a cord hold down to hold the bottom of the blind or shade cord in place, so that it doesn't hang or dangle. You will see this most often on continuous cord loop shades, such as bamboo shades or cord roller shades, to provide protection for small children.
